When in Stockholm, you cannot miss out on Af Chapman, the big steelship mooring outside the island of Skeppsholmen right across Gamla stan. For many years, Af Chapman was used as a hostel. Then it got renovated in the last years and now it's waiting for new life. I always thought that it's sad you could only go there when being a guest in the hostel, as it must be impressive to discover. Good news: Since the beginning of June 2026, the Af Chapman is open for everybody. Yes, you can now climb on board and have a look around. It's really stunning and you have an amazing view to Gamla stan. Some signs there give you a hint and you should definitely do what's written there: visit the bar! Which there means: grab one of their alcoholfree wines or cava, a softdrink, a coffee, something sweet or icecream and search for your favourite spot on the ship to enjoy it. The staff is very friendly and motivated. And if you're lucky with the timing: there are regularely bands playing there. As you can see: enough reasons to walk to Skeppsholmen (or take Djurgårdsfärjan there) and enjoy a drink on board. When weather permits, it's open from 12h and varies in the evening according to the weather. Check out their updated opening hours and programm on their website.
